Education Roundtable - Q1
Tuesday, March 14 | 9:30am-10:30am (CT)
The Wisconsin Association for Equity in Funding (AEF) is a group of approximately 60 public school districts advocating for financial equity in the state system of school financing. AEF’s central issue is the fact that under state law, some school districts are allowed to raise and spend thousands of dollars more per student than others. The amounts are not based on costs or demographics but rather, the amount the district spent in 1993. The gaps have persisted for 3 decades, short-changing the educational opportunities of thousands of students.
On March 14th at 9:30 AM, Wisconsin Philanthropy Network will be joined by AEF Executive Director John Humphries, who will share a brief background about the "revenue limit" system and specific impacts this limit has had on achievement, staffing, and post-secondary enrollment. Mr. Humphries will then discuss research from leading economists and policy analysts who have been engaged by AEF to study the system and its impacts on students and schools. Finally, he will share opportunities the coalition is pursuing to resolve this issue, as well as opportunities related to various state budget scenarios in preparation for the biennial budget cycle.
