Fund My Future Milwaukee
November 13, 2018
8:30 am - 10:00 am
Fund My Future Milwaukee (FMFM) is part of a national movement to create children’s savings accounts (CSAs) for all children. In fact, there are currently 54 CSA programs in 32 states serving 384,000 children. CSAs can put postsecondary education within reach for low-income children by enabling them to save for their education beyond high school and raising their educational aspirations. Research shows that even when a nominal amount is saved ($500 or less), low-income children are 3 times more likely to attend college and 4 times more likely to graduate than students who have no college savings.
Starting this school year, FMFM will provide every 5-year-old kindergartener in Milwaukee with a CSA seeded at $25 and future opportunities to receive comparable bonus deposits based on positive behaviors as well as financial capability services. This public-private effort involves the City of Milwaukee, United Way of Greater Milwaukee and Waukesha County, Edvest College Savings Plan, Employ Milwaukee, Milwaukee Public Schools, charter, choice and private schools, and many other committed partners.
