December 10, 2015
4:30 pm - 6:30 pm
Bader Philanthropies and the Wisconsin Philanthropy Network cordially invite you to join us on Thursday, December 10th for a special reception, where you will learn about The Ability Center’s journey and promising future.
Jackie and Brian Egelhoff know their tennis. Jackie is a USPTA professional and high school tennis coach. Brian is also a USPTA pro — and a survivor of a traumatic brain injury which resulted in a serious brain surgery that forced him to re-learn to play tennis with his opposite hand. As a result, they don’t just know tennis; they know the challenges faced by those with disabilities who also love the game.
From Eric Barber’s perspective, life in a wheelchair is completely “normal.” A paraplegic since age 3, it’s really all he’s ever known — so there’s never been a reason for him to place any limits on himself. Armed with a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, he has achieved success as a Human Resources professional. Armed with a basketball, he has taken on the entire world – and often won.
The Ability Center has a simple mission which is to provide individuals, like Brian and Eric, with a daily opportunity to be fit, active and healthy. Damian Buchman, Executive Director of The Ability Center, will share the Center’s accomplishments and its exciting new direction. As the Center enters the next phase of its work, the organization is seeking to strengthen its existing partnerships and cultivate new relationships to ensure that people of all abilities lead healthy lifestyles. While the need is significant and their vision is large, Milwaukee could quickly become the nation’s standard in the way America deploys health, wellness and fitness to people of all abilities.
4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
Two days prior to the event, you will receive an email with directions and parking information.
