Health is about more than just health care; it is driven by many other factors like housing, education, and transportation. This is especially true for people with unmet health and social needs. Yet the social services designed to help are often siloed from medical services and public health programs tasked with improving health. Addressing this challenge has only grown more urgent in the wake of COVID-19.  

How can medical care, public health, and social services work together to create an environment in which everyone has a fair and just opportunity to be as healthy as possible-and what difference does this systems alignment make during the pandemic?

RWJF's Systems for Action program seeks proposals for funding to supplement existing system alignment research in order to learn how this alignment addresses health and social needs during the pandemic. Which alignment mechanisms are the most effective, for which populations, and at what cost? In the wake of COVID-19, we must quickly put these findings into action.

Approximately $1 million in funding is available to extend ongoing or recently completed studies. Each grant will provide up to $200,000 for up to two years of investigation that makes use of existing data, procedures, and relationships to produce new evidence about the quality and outcomes of systems alignments given the new needs, opportunities, and constraints of the COVID-19 pandemic.
