Keynote Summary | Brenda Solorzano, Chief Executive Officer with Headwaters Foundation
This year’s plenary session “Trust Based Philanthropy: A Different Approach to Philanthropy” highlighted Brenda’s own journey to a trust-based approach including concrete examples Headwaters Foundation has used to cede power in their practice. Brenda also reviewed tips foundations can use in their internal advocacy efforts, addressed common misconceptions of a trust-based approach, and offered recommendations for how to get started in this work. A changemaker at heart, Brenda is a founding member of the Trust Based Philanthropy Project and a firm believer in the power of community. Brenda takes a values-driven approach to her philanthropic work that is rooted in advancing equity, shifting power and building mutually accountable relationships with nonprofit grantee partners. You can read more about Brenda on our Conference Webpage.
What to Expect
During this virtual event, participants will view a recording of Brenda’s keynote “Trust Based Philanthropy: A Different Approach to Philanthropy.” Following the recording, Wisconsin Philanthropy Network staff will facilitate breakout reflections on trust-based practice. These break out discussions will ensure participants have an opportunity to connect with one another and share reflections on and opportunities for their own trust-based journeys. We encourage anyone who was able to experience this session live during the in-person conference to share this opportunity with peers who were unable to attend.
