Women’s Fund of Greater Green Bay awards $57,000 to local nonprofits working to empower women and inspire girls

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Women’s Fund of Greater Green Bay, a fund of the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation, has awarded eight grants, totaling more than $57,000 to local nonprofit programs.

The Women’s Fund endowment provides grants local nonprofit organizations that offer programs and services supporting leadership and self-esteem initiatives for women and girls.  Since 1998, the Women’s Fund of Greater Green Bay has granted more than $730,000 to more than 95 initiatives and programs in our community.  Grants from this fund make an impact every day by supporting thousands of women and girls in our community!

Grants are awarded based on a competitive application process including review by a team of community volunteers.  The next deadline for Women’s Fund grants applications is July 1, 2018.  Online applications may be accessed at www.ggbcf.org.

Brown County Health & Human Services, Parents Pals Program

This grant will allow Parent Pals to conduct three educational sessions for mothers referred from Child Protective Services on topics including: "Budgeting & Nutrition," "Garden to Table" planting and harvesting their own vegetables, and "Common Childhood Illnesses & Injuries - Prevention, Treatment & When to Seek Medical Intervention.”.

St. Norbert College, United reSISTERs Stories of Resilience

This funding will be used to publish a book on the resettlement and resiliency of young African female refugees.  The stories will highlight the young women's participation in and creation of the United reSISTERs, a group of young Somali women who have a passion for creating a more tight-knit community and peaceful world.

YWCA of Greater Green Bay, Somali Women’s Empowerment Program

Funds will enable Somali women of all ages to access culturally customized and affordable experiences that help them integrate in the YWCA and the community.  The Women's Empowerment program includes female-only swimming, fitness center access, and computer classes.

Casa ALBA Melanie, Mujeres Fuertes & Women’s Support Group

This grant will fund two related programs for Hispanic women: 1) Mujeres Fuertes/Strong Women - offers exercise and nutrition classes for women, encouraging healthy lifestyle choices and 2) Hispanic Women Support Group, which offers women in abusive situations the tools to develop self-help skills while supporting the women and their families.

Exceptional Equestrians, Girls Rule 2018

This grant will support the equine-assisted learning program that empowers girls to lead their lives with success. Grant funds will support program need-based scholarships.

Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Green Bay, Post-Adoption Services for Birth Mothers

This funding will provide comprehensive post-adoption services to birth mothers. These activities will provide opportunities for birth mothers to connect with and support each other, provide tangible support to birth mothers shortly after the birth of the child they are creating an adoption plan for and provide professional counseling services.

NWTC Educational Foundation, Women of Color

Funds will provide NWTC's Women of Color group an opportunity to increase achievement and persistence rates of minority women by creating a supportive environment where they can find strength in each other and succeed academically.  The group provides a structured environment where participants can share stories, get involved in the community, gain leadership skills, and attend presentations and workshops on learning new skills.

Boys & Girls Club of Greater Green Bay, Girls Only Graphic Design

The funds will support a summer offering of the Girls Only Graphic Design program that will give girls a look at women in the arts throughout the years and their stamp on history.  Girls will take trips to museums, around our community and through the Internet to discover the women who are using their talent to make a difference.
